Limpsfield Common Spring Update 🌿

India Davies, Ranger at the National Trust, shares a really positive update from the Common, where wildlife is thriving and the seasons are shifting beautifully.

Frogs have returned to Yalden Spring, bluebells are beginning to emerge at Ridlands Grove, and the whole Common is bursting into life.

Behind the scenes, there’s plenty of important conservation work continuing:

  • Volunteers are restoring heathland at West Heath
  • Habitats are being improved at Yalden Spring
  • Invasive species such as cherry laurel are being tackled
  • Work is ongoing to support safe, responsible use of the Common, including plans for the bike pit area

Air Raid Shelter Open Days

Please do bring some cash on the day for donations to our fantastic team of volunteers, who keep the shelters in such great condition all year round.

Funding Update

We’re very pleased to share that our Expression of Interest for CIL funding from Tandridge District Council has been accepted, and we’re moving on to the next stage.

If successful, this funding will support a number of exciting projects, including:

  • Improvements to the Air Raid Shelters and Grub Street area
  • The Yalden Spring project
  • New trails, including a Heritage Trail linking the Common’s many historic sites

More details to follow soon—and a big thank you to Maggie Morgan for all her hard work in getting the application to this stage.

Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone who has renewed their membership. Your support really does make a difference—helping fund our activities and keeping the Taskforce supplied with tools, tea, biscuits and chainsaw fuel!

In Memory

We were very sad to hear that our area’s former Countryside Manager, Mark Dawson, passed away last week. A member of National Trust staff for many years, Mark was well known around the Common, a member of the Limpsfield Common Local Committee, and a great supporter of our work. He will be greatly missed.

Diary Date

Please save the date for our Annual Public Meeting:
📅 Saturday 12 September
🕦 11.30am
📍 St Andrew’s Village Hall

Join us for updates on projects and activities, a chance to chat with the team, and refreshments on us.

It’s a truly special time on the Common, so do make the most of it.

And a gentle reminder—please be responsible with your dogs around people, livestock and wildlife breeding areas. Respect fencing, don’t trample the bluebells, and always take litter and dog waste to the bins (or home with you).
