A very successful Air Raid Shelter Open Day

What a fantastic open day afternoon at the WW2 air raid shelters at Grub Street yesterday, Sunday 28th July 2024.

The Friends of Limpsfield Common, in conjunction with The National Trust, oversee the management and conservation of many heritage sites on the Common, including the WW2 Air Raid Shelters and spigot mortar at Grub Street, by the side of the cricket pitch.

This Sunday, 28th July, we held an open afternoon with several sessions over two hours, with over 100 people coming along to learn all about the shelters and what life was like in Limpsfield during the Second World War.

It was a glorious summer’s day (a bit hot in the uniforms!) and everyone had a great time.

Thank you to everyone who came along and thank you to all our fabulous volunteers who always get completely in character and enjoy themselves immensely.

Particular thanks to Lorna E for organising all the schedules, and managing all the visitors; to Peter W, Rob D, Martin E and Tony P for their fabulous enthusiasm and costumes!

We’ll meet again… next time!
